Quality assurance and testing are all about ensuring trust

Our linguistic quality assurance testing teams offer both a standalone testing service, and testing as part of a complete localisation process. We are therefore able to test content translated elsewhere, or to provide a testing phase for projects we are taking from start to finish. In addition, continuous testing is a hugely valued resource with many of our major e-commerce clients.

Localisation quality requires measurable outcomes. Testing therefore comes in two forms. Firstly, a practical checking process, which is undertaken by LQA specialists. This is followed by an analytical process in which real data allows insight into where issues lie.

TAUS Dynamic Quality Framework

At Alpha, we use the TAUS Dynamic Quality Framework (DQF) to assist in our linguistic quality assurance. This system provides scoring for adequacy, fluency, and typology – whether it gets meaning across, whether it flows, and whether there are errors. Typology includes accuracy, formulation of language, how well it meets terminology guidelines, style, and whether it has accurately localised standards such as weights and measures. When combined, these factors give a detailed quality score which can be assessed.

Using this framework for linguistic quality assurance has huge advantages for our clients. When localising for a single country or language, we always give a firm rating on quality. This means that any user of an LSP or translator is able to see exactly what standard readers are getting. It is not dependent on your company being able to understand the language.

Secondly, assessing in this manner across multiple languages can reveal which languages are falling below ideal standards. It also shows which factors need to be worked on. Such analysis can provide many useful insights. Such as why a product is selling well in most territories but failing in a specific region.
